You can get published . . . . . . but the publication of a book is an expensive and financially risky process. So the fundamental question is, “Who is going to pay publication costs and take the risk?” In traditional publishing, the publishing company does. They pay the author for the rights to publish, transform the manuscript into a book, and distribute it through bookstores nationwide. Sounds good, doesn't it?
Unfortunately, for a new and/or unknown author, getting published by a traditional publisher is as probable as winning the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb in a child’s pedal car. Publishers are interested only in profits, so they look for books that are likely to sell hot off the press. And the most powerful selling tool is the author’s name.
Where does that leave you?
If you’re serious about getting your book published, you can plunge into the world known as self-publishing, or subsidy publishing, where you bear all or part of the publication costs. There are dozens of online Internet publishers who are more than willing to publish your book.
That’s the good news . . . and that’s the bad news!
