The Road to Publication
The road through the cyberland of online publishing is broad and straight. Just google “self-publishing,” and you’ll find lots of companies eager to serve you. Unfortunately, the road is sown with land mines and improvised explosive devices.
The problem is, those publishers are nameless, faceless people. Some are undoubtedly wonderful, upright, and honest, but some are not. There is no way you can really know with whom you are dealing. The unknowing author can find his dreams blown to bits by excessive, hidden, or unexpected costs; by substandard quality; and by false expectations and broken promises.
On their web sites, many of these publishers brag about how many books their large, anonymous staff has published. They’ll offer quotes from anonymous writers who are delighted with their books. And they’ll promise you marketing help that isn’t likely to produce results.
If you are considering this approach, do yourself a huge favor. Do another Internet search of the publishing com-pany’s name, and pay close attention to any negative comments about them.
So here's the best news! Green Street Press is truly different.
Green Street Press is a subsidy publisher that has a web site, obviously – but it is not an online publishing company. It isn’t a bunch of anonymous people hiding in cyberspace. Green Street Press, quite simply, is me - Joe Zentis. I am the one who talks with authors, creates the covers, designs the books, and oversees the production processes.
This limits the number of books that Green Street Press can publish. I have a policy that limits that number even more: I won’t publish anything for someone I don’t know, or can’t get to know.
For me, publishing is a personal, interactive experience between author and publisher.
I won’t publish a book unless I can talk with the author – preferably face to face, but if that’s not possible, then on the phone. I want to know his or her aspirations and expectations. They, in turn, need to know me – what I can and cannot do for them.
If you have a book you would like to get published, and this approach to publishing appeals to you, then please contact me either by phone or e-mail.
